Use Code Revision Project

Current DOR Use Code Information

Currently, real property use codes are set out in the Florida Administrative Code in Chapter 12D-8.008 (Additional Requirements for Preparation of the Real Property Roll). The use code list was originally developed in 1976. Since that time the Florida real estate market has undergone tremendous changes and the current list no longer reflects all the property types Florida Property Appraisers must assess. The Department has begun the process of reviewing and revising the current DOR use codes listed in the 12D-8.008(2)(c), F.A.C. As the project moves forward we will post on this webpage all communications, survey results and draft use code lists as they are released for feedback.

DOR Use Code Revision Project Goal

To develop a comprehensive DOR use code list that reflects contemporary property types, and allows the critical stakeholders (department and counties) the ability to accurately stratify and analyze properties on the ad valorem assessment rolls for oversight and appraisal purposes for the next 10 to 20 years.

DOR Use Code Revision Survey

Your assistance and feedback with the DOR Use Code Revision Project is critical. The Department will be soliciting your help and feedback throughout the duration of the project. We have developed a survey in order to solicit input from you and your staff. Your feedback is very important and will help provide the information we need to develop a comprehensive use code list that reflects contemporary property types, meets county needs and is useful into the foreseeable future. Feedback from this survey will also aid the Department in designing a revision cycle that will create the least amount of disruption for counties and allow enough time for implementation.

The DOR Use Code Revision Survey can be accessed at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7Y8PGTZ. The password for the survey is "florida" (password is case sensitive).

The deadline for taking the survey is Friday, January 21, 2011.
