Hillsborough County Delays Increase in Indigent Care and Trauma
Center Surtax Until October 1, 2001

On October 1, 2001, Hillsborough County's discretionary surtax rate will increase from .75% to 1% as a result of Ordinance No. 00-43, recently adopted by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. As a result of this change, the following rates apply:

New Hillsborough County Rates (Effective October 1, 2001)

Indigent Care and Trauma Center Surtax	0.50%
Local Government Infrastructure Surtax	0.50%
State Sales Tax	6.00%
Total	7.00%

Dealers with active sales tax accounts were previously advised that Hillsborough County would increase the discretionary surtax rate from .75% to 1.00% effective March 1, 2001. This increase will not be effective until October 1, 2001. A revised discretionary surtax rate chart is printed on the reverse side of this notice.

All dealers making sales in Hillsborough County must collect and report tax at the new rate beginning October 1, 2001. This increased tax must be remitted on your appropriate Florida sales tax return. Dealers located in Hillsborough County will receive new coupon booklets in late October which will have the new discretionary surtax rates printed on each coupon.

Enclosed for your information and use is Form DR-2X. This form contains a bracket chart for the various tax rates that are imposed in Florida. For most sales in Hillsborough County, you should use the 6.75% brackets through September 30, 2001; effective October 1, 2001, most transactions in Hillsborough County will be subject to the 7% brackets.
